Greetings brave Knight,
Wintertide is a special event that was introduced on December 11th, 2019. By entering the Sacred Portal, you will face and battle Frosten Goblins and Troll enemies to earn Event Points, which will grant rewards.
Enemies
The Frosten Goblin clan lives far beyond our realm. Somewhat brighter than most Goblins, their Mages learned how to activate the ancient Portals that connect worlds long ago—a feat rendered easier by Karnon's recent meddling.
The bulk of Frosten forces are their Warriors and Alchemists. These Goblins are dedicated to ruining Wintertide, but, being smarter than an average Goblin, they know when to flee.
Red Rima is a powerful Frosten that is more than happy to come through the Portal, seeking out Wintertide revelers to kidnap and feed to Leppaludi.
Kramp Frosthorn is a Troll who was ""adopted"" by the Frosten. They celebrate Kramp's viciousness and strength, and eagerly follow him into battle.
Leppaludi is a sea Troll who generally spends most of the year slumbering. He is awoken each year by the Wintertide festivities, and will lash out at anyone who comes near—including his loyal Frosten subjects (unless they bring snacks). He can be summoned by brave Guilds, reducing the risk that he will attack elsewhere.
Heroes
There are many Wintertide traditions that have been passed down generations. The Sakroch would fill tiny boats with cooked meat and winter vegetables, and send them into the sea as an offering to Oshian. The Alfar would spend days singing and dancing. The Pure would do the opposite, taking a vow of silence over the course of the festival. The Brelmere would enjoy bampot dunking.
The Dwarves of the mountains would craft beautiful gifts, which they'd exchange at the Grand Feast. The Oath of Peace was taken at the Feast, where all arguments were put aside. However, their Feast would often be interrupted by invading Frosten Goblins, who would smash up their gifts and steal their food.
Eventually, Lukin, the great hunter, decided that enough was enough. He took a rather creative interpretation of the Oath of Peace - he would bring about Wintertide peace by defeating as many Frosten as he could. He traveled the land on his quest, visiting many different peoples. He had soon gathered a diverse group of hunters, who were also sick of the Frosten crashing their celebrations, to join him.
Thus the tradition of the Wintertide Hunt began. Lukin's spirit still yearns for the hunt... and during Wintertide, you'll be able to recruit him to your side!
Also joining the fray is Urmas and his brothers served in King Eskar's armies. They usually guarded against Troll attacks, but on one fateful day, they were assigned to Lance's unit to investigate reports of a portal. The portal was the work of the Dark Ones, and Lance was the only survivor. Urmas and his brothers ended up captured by the Dark Ones and, after horrific experiments, the three brother's spirits were permanently bound into one body. However, their spirits remained uncorrupted by focusing on their friends and family back home... and they were determined to protect all that is good, even in death.
And last, but not least, Brutus lived in the snowy mountains with his troop. His people were often the victim of goblin raids and, when his mentor was killed, Brutus swore that his people would suffer no more. He honed his alchemical skills to become known as a great protector, wiping out any goblin - Frosten or otherwise - that was unwise enough to cross his path. A fan favorite, Brutus won the election battle against Wintertide's founder, Lukin.
Did you know...?
...Wintertide was the first in-game special event in Knighthood, predating Dark Tor's modern structure. Also, Frosten Goblins are the first monster species to flee the battle after using their battles. And for the last one, A Hussar was a member of a light cavalry unit from central Europe, specifically originating in medieval Hungary.
