Greetings brave Knights!
Today we'll be telling you about the creation of Logan, our Legendary Dark Warrior.
Logan was one of our very earliest Heroes. We have a huge number of concepts from that era, some unused, some combined, and others, like Logan, which are very recognizable from their early origins!
Meet 'Dark Warrior 01'!
His final form was altered slightly from his original concept, to make better use of and to emphasize his wolfish characteristics. He lost his sword (because who needs swords when claws will suffice), and also his boots - he got his own digitigrade rig for more wolf-like legs! Lucky boy.
Other than that, much of his original concept remains today. His kilt and ornamentation remains the same, with the exception of some slight toning down of bling - no gold armlets, and no ruby on his belt, keeping his color palette in the cooler end of the spectrum.
So, we had our proud wolfish warrior! But what to call him? Designer Max settled on 'Logan' for a few reasons - Logan is a good, solid Scottish name, and our Hero was wearing a kilt, and it was also phonetically similar to the French word for werewolf (loup-garou).
Logan's backstory tied in him solidly to both the geography of the game, and to one of Knighthood's major historical events - The White Peak Invasion. Logan's people will live in Storm Rock Point, which can be found at the entrance of the White Peak map in-game:
This also put him and his pack in close proximity to Mirefen, home of Queen Krita. Logan's backstory highlights his role in allying with Queen Krita - who didn't actually appear in-game as a Hero until many years later - against the White Peak Trolls. His backstory also touches on the fraught relationship between lycans and humans, which was elaborated on in his Spotlight - and which was later tied into the lore of the Blood Moon event.
Logan's Hero's Challenge provides more insight into Logan's history and his relationships with his fellow Heroes. It also offers you a chance to earn his new skin, "Devana's Wrath".
When creating a new Skin, often several different concepts will be explored. Artist Bo explains:
"Based off from the original, we started the design for the character Logan by imagining a fast, light-footed Scottish warrior - but we first explored a few different styles, including a heavily armored Roman and a lighter, leathery Mongolian fighter."
"Although the Mongolian look fit his agile nature, we decided to stick with the Scottish theme, blending it with the lighter armor to create a unique feel. The process was heavily inspired by the movie "Braveheart", with lots of references to tattoos, bones, leather, and fur. The character's look truly came together when we introduced tartan, which was followed by the face paint on the face from the movie."
Glowing elements were added, which ties in with the name of the skin: Devana's Wrath. Devana is the goddess of the lycans, and with this skin, we imagine that she's imbued Logan with additional strength to protect his pack and their lands.
